LANY : U.S. TOUR PART 2

10/10 - TLA - PHILADELPHIA, Pa

BAND

Paul Jason Klein : lead vocals/piano/guitar

Jake Clifford Goss : drums/SPD-SX

Les Priest : keyboards/guitar/back vocals

We do not know where to begin with this one. It was perhaps the best show that ELECTRIC has seen, thus far, in 2017. High energy, good vibes, amazing music, and an incredible performance made for a great night at LANY'S TOUR PART 2 stop in Philadelphia. LANY, unlike a lot of fellow current bands, gave the performance that you expected and wanted to see. It was the performance that you had hoped for all night.

As the lights dimmed, the intro music for "Dumb Stuff" started to play and the band walked out on stage. As the crowd began to scream and burst into energy, the set then ran into "4EVER!" and "Yea, Babe, No Way". Next came "Flowers On The Floor" and "Overtime", which included Klein playing guitar... can you say swoon. It was now time for one of the songs that catapulted LANY into the music scene, "Good Girls", a synth-pop track infused with Klein's heavy-breathed vocals. The first half of the show was concluded with "Made In Hollywood", which had the entire venue singing along.

It was then time for a string of the band's more popular tracks. "It Was Love", "Hurts", "Purple Teeth", "13", and "Tampa". This was the section of the show when the crowd truly lit up. "It Was Love" is a personal favorite of mine, so to see it performed live, in its highest and greatest form, was an incredible thing. When the band went into playing "Purple Teeth", a purple heart appeared on the screen on the stage, illuminating the venue. As the intro to "13" began, Klein pulled his tussled hair into his much loved "man bun", one of his signature style looks. And perhaps one of the best parts of the show was as they began "Tampa", Klein, sitting at the piano, noted to the crowd that the vocals for the song had been recorded in Philly. As the string of hits began to wind down, the band rounded it out with "WHERE THE HELL ARE MY FRIENDS" and "The Breakup".

"I used to fold shirts at Urban Outfitters here, and then I moved to New York and I used to take the train to Philly to shoot for Urban Outfitters at their head quarters but this is what I always wanted to do. If you ever have a dream in your heart that just won't go away, I beg you to never let it go. This night means a lot to me, personally." - Paul Jason Klein

This was the quote that we took away from last night's show, the quote that we will always remember. As he sat at the piano, before beginning a medley of "Pancakes" and "Current Location", this was the short speech that Klein gave to the audience. A tale of his early days as a model, while trying to break into the music industry. This speech was the point that fully connected the band and the Philadelphia audience, an understanding of just how important our city is to so many people. Next up was fan favorite "Pink Skies", which illuminated the room into a pink lit tunnel. Then it was time for "Hericane", the track that is, arguably, the best song that LANY has produced. This performance was church-like and inspiring, Klein completely honest with every lyric. It was as if you and the band were the only people in the room and everyone else had faded away. It was what propelled me to conclude that this LANY show would be the best live show that I had seen in a long time.

It was now time for the encore, which followed a few minute break, with the stage totally empty and dark. Paul, Jake and Les re-entered the stage and began to perform "Super Far". Next came the "Parents" interlude track, with Klein accompanying on the piano. Then, finally and sadly, it was time to end the night with the song you had been waiting to hear. "ILYSB" is the reason you first fell in love with LANY, the song that got you hooked, it was the song that compelled you to want to hear more.
